Crowds marked the occasion by filling streets for the parade, parking lots for the tailgating and the Alerus Center for the football game
The Grand Forks Herald said it best: “A year ago Saturday, the Alerus Center was barren and the UND football team’s fall season was suspended as COVID-19 cases continued to rise dramatically,” the newspaper reported.
“This Saturday, though, was a much different story: thousands of tailgaters packed the center’s parking lot, blaring music, drinking, eating barbecue, and playing lawn games as they waited for the Fighting Hawks to play Drake inside at the annual Potato Bowl, a Grand Forks tradition that spans decades.”
Top that off with a 38-0 shutout against Drake University in Saturday’s Potato Bowl game, and you’ve got a UND weekend to remember.
Below are a selection of photos from Saturday’s Potato Bowl events.
