Wellness Spotlight

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season, jam packed days, and winter in general can be rough during this busy time of year. While summer is known for spontaneous mid-day jogs, cycling with friends, and walks on the beach, winter is the best time of year to focus on self-care and a new workout. There are plenty of activities made just for the colder months that are enjoyable and adventurous. Our December Wellness Spotlight will talk more about dressing for winter activities!


What's Happening?!

The University of North Dakota and Altru have launched a partnership to bring together ideas, resources and opportunities to promote health and wellness across our organizations and the larger community. The Winter Wellness Challenge is one of our first collaborations created to encourage and promote lifelong wellbeing. We are excited for you to participate in our inaugural program!

Zen in 10 focuses on stretching, breathing and having fun with coworkers. Go back to work with less stress, more energy and better body functioning. Services provided by Kay Williams, Certified Yoga and Relax and Renew Instructor. FREE and open to the Campus! FLYER 

The UND Rock Wall will be open to the Campus and public for climbing with No Membership required! Children of all ages (we have harnesses for toddlers/small children, fit not guaranteed) will be able to visit and climb the Rock Wall. Stop by and give it a try on Sunday, December 8 from 2 – 4 p.m. Cost $10/family.

Find a new favorite exercise! Join us for group exercise FREE week Dec. 15-20 at the Wellness Center. Try out classes like cycling, yoga, or Zumba! Must be a member of the Wellness Center.

Group Exercise Happy Hour classes have moved!

Happy Hour is a FREE Group Exercise class in the Wellness Center that gives you the chance to cycle, dance and strengthen your body. Try a new class for FREE at 8 p.m. Mondays.

Winter is here, and The Outpost has you covered! We have outdoor winter equipment rentals including snowboards, cross country skis, snowshoes, and ICE SKATES. Stop by The Outpost located in the Wellness Center to gear up for adventure!

The UShine Award is presented monthly to a UND staff member who went above and beyond, with an annual award chosen each May!

UND faculty, staff, students and public are encouraged to nominate and recognize a UND Staff member who did something special or extraordinary to assist a colleague, supervisor, student or family.

Grand Forks USDA Human Nutrition Research Center:
Participate in a research study!  USDA is looking for volunteers to participate in studies to improve their understanding of the health roles of food and physical activity.  Volunteers are essential partners in their research and are paid honoraria for their participation.

FACULTY: Heading out of town for a conference or on business? Not sure what to do with your class? Wellness & Health Promotion has you covered! With Don’t Cancel Class, you have a variety of Health & Wellness topics/presentations to choose from and a member of our team will come cover your class!  To learn more about the presentations available and reserve a date!

The new UND/NDPERS Voucher is available now.  Remember, as a benefited UND employee, you can earn up to 12,000 points by completing 4 activities listed on the 2019-2020 voucher and submitting the voucher via email, fax, interoffice mail or QualtricsStarting January 1, employees must upload their own voucher to have the points be transferred to their StayWell account and points must be used by December 31st, 2021. 

Remember to take your annual LifeScore Health Assessment so you can receive your Fitness Center Reimbursement and be eligible to earn a $250 wellness benefit ($500 per household). All points must be redeemed by 12/31/2019!

Update: The WW meeting at UND EERC has been closed. Work Well will continue to offer UND employees a $50 return up to 3 times a year if they are enrolled and meet the attendance criteria.  Click here to learn more about the WW Studio in Grand Forks.
