Why should I use a reusable bottle?!
The United States manufactures around 50 billion disposable plastic water bottles every year. That’s 42.9% of the beverage packaging market. However, only 1 out of 5 are properly recycled. By using a reusable water bottle (like the FREE one from this challenge), you are being environmentally friendly and reducing the amount of non-biodegradable waste in the local landfills.
At least 25% of bottled water on the market is just re-filtered tap water. In the United States, water is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Along with local authorities, the EPA will test water frequently to make sure it is safe and compliant. On the other hand bottled water is regulated as a food under the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA monitors the labeling, but the bottlers themselves are responsible for testing the water. Therefore, the FDA doesn’t require bottled water companies to disclose where the water came from.
