We like to Move IT, Move IT

The Get Moving Challenge has officially started! This 4-week challenge is here to help increase your physical activity.  You can register as an individual or as a team.  Each week, don’t forget to log your steps or convert them from other forms of activity (swimming, strength training, stair climbing…).

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), getting regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health! It can help control weight, reduce the risk of chronic diseases (like heart disease, cancer, obesity and diabetes), and improve your mental health and mood. It is recommended to achieve a minimum of 150 minutes a week of physical activity.

That's where the Get Moving Challenge comes in! Walking is a simple way to help reach the CDC's goal of at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week. It's easy on the joints and environmentally friendly! Challenge a co-worker or your department to get those feet moving!

Working Remotely or From Home?

Don't worry! Work Well has you covered! Let's begin to work in instead of working out! Here's a couple ideas to get your started:

• Take a walk outside, bring your pet along for company (remember - 6 feet apart!)

• Indoor/at home walking videos

• Try something new.  Try this beginner flow yoga.

• Set up a virtual wellness walk with your team via Zoom

Before you go... Stretch BREAK!

Is sitting at your desk causing you physical stress? You’re not alone. Many individuals spend the majority of our waking day sitting in front of a computer or relaxing in front of the television. All of this day-to-day inactivity causes our joints and muscles to get stiff and places stress on our bodies in different ways. Incorporating stretching & stretch breaks into your daily routine can help improve your productivity, ability to handle stress, and overall well-being. Stretching on a regular basis can help reduce muscular fatigue, tension, pain, and degenerative joint or disc problems and reenergizes your body.

What IS the Get Moving Challenge?

Altru and the University of North Dakota have launched a partnership to bring together ideas, resources and opportunities to promote health and wellness across our organizations and the larger community. The Get Moving Challenge is another one of our collaborations created to encourage and promote lifelong well being. We are excited for you to participate in our walking/step conversion program!
