The Get Moving Challenge’s primary goal is to encourage participants to increase their active movements everyday. But that’s just scratching the surface of Wellness. Every day Work Well encourages faculty and staff to focus on all 7 Dimensions of Wellness to promote lifelong well-being. Read a little about each Dimension below:

Spiritual Wellness

• Involves possessing a set of guiding beliefs, principles, or values that help give direction to one's life

• Can express their meaning and purpose in life through different means such as nature, art, music, religions, and meditation

Try this 5-minute meditation video that can be done in the office, at your desk, or laying in bed at the end of the day.

Social Wellness

• Involves learning good communication skills, developing intimacy with others, and creating a support network

• Friends can serve as a source of encouragement and reinforcement for practicing healthy habits such as proper nutrition and exercise

To protect your health and wellness; stay connected to people by calling an old friend, plan a virtual wellness walk, FaceTime/Skype/Zoom a family member.

Occupational Wellness

• Involves preparing and making use of your gifts, skills, and talents in order to gain purpose and happiness in your life

• The choice of profession, career ambitions, and job performance are all important components

Broadening Occupational Wellness might include: professional development opportunities, participating in Work Well, and purposeful trainings or readings.

Environmental Wellness

• An awareness of the state of the earth and the effects of your daily habits on the physical environment

• Consists of maintaining behaviors that minimize harm and create a safe environment and finding ways to promote it

Environmental Wellness maybe achieved by taking a nature walk, recycling, and drinking water out of a reusable water bottle.

Intellectual Wellness

• Characterized by the ability to make sound decisions and to think critically

• Encourages openness to new ideas, motivation to master new skills, and a sense of humor, creativity, and curiosity

This could include taking an enrichment or online course, learning a new language, staying up with current events, or doing brain-simulating activities such as crossword puzzles/sudoku

Emotional Wellness

• Encompasses optimism, self-esteem, self-acceptance, and the ability to share feelings

• A critical element of emotional wellness is the ability to manage stress

• Stress can occur when external and/or internal resources exceed the resources of the person.

Techniques for managing stress and fulfilling your emotional wellness bucket include: surrounding yourself with a positive support network, eating well, managing your time, practicing relaxation techniques, and exercising. Try this yoga flow to fulfill your relation and exercise for the day!

Physical Wellness

• Encompasses a variety of healthy behaviors including adequate sleep, regular exercise, proper nutrition, and abstaining from harmful habits such as drugs and alcohol

• Focuses on enhancing the enjoyment and quality of your years

Each day try adding in fresh fruits/veggies, drinking enough water, and adding in 30 minutes of exercise. Start today with a new exercise video.
