NEWS 

Dr. Emily Midkiff (CEHD Instructor) published a new piece in The Conversion entitled, “Sci-fi books for young readers often omit children of color from the future“.

Dr. Radomir (Ray) Mitic will be serving on the Editorial Board for the Journal of College Student Development starting in January 2023 for a three-year term.

CEHD will again be very well represented at the American Educational Research Association conference with 20 accepted presentations by faculty and students. The conference will be in Chicago in April 2023.

Did you know… according to Google Scholar, 5 of the top 20 most cited researchers at the University of North Dakota are in the College of Education and Human Development? It’s true, and each with over 3000 citations. Well done Drs. Sagini Keengwe, Stupnisky, Hung, Moritz, and Navarro!

SPOTLIGHT

Dr. Rachel L. Navarro (she/her/hers) is a professor of Counseling Psychology in the Department of Education, Health and Behavior Studies. Dr. Navarro’s research focuses on the academic, career, and psychological well-being of Latinx and Indigenous peoples. First, Dr. Navarro is passionate about broadening participation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Since 2010, NSF has continually funded her research on the academic and career engagement, satisfaction, and persistence of Latinxs and women in engineering. Dr. Navarro also is the Education and Workforce Development co-lead for the North Dakota NSF EPSCoR Track 1 project, ND-ACES. The EWD team implements activities across North Dakota to support the academic and career development of faculty and students with a focus on biomedical sciences, particularly for those from rural and tribal communities. Second, Dr. Navarro is committed to improving behavioral health services for underserved and under-resourced communities. Her research focuses on the influence of societal, culture, and personal factors in Latinxs’ and Indigenous persons’ behavioral health, well-being, and help-seeking intentions and behaviors. She also is the co-director for the Mountain Plains Mental Health Technology Transfer Center serving SAMHSA region 8 by providing free training, resources, and technical assistance on best practices for behavioral health treatment.
