CEM collaborates with researchers from European and Canadian Space Agencies in Short Arm Human Centrifuge Study

You may have seen Richard Branson traveling to outer space recently. It does not look far away that humans will be on Mars, and there is quite a bit of research, by different space programs, to see how the human body can adapt to almost one year of travel there in a microgravity environment. The other question is: can countermeasures such as short-arm centrifuge systems can help mitigate some of the risks?

Dr. Kouhyar Tavakolian is currently collaborating with researchers from the European and Canadian Space Agencies in a Short-Arm Human Centrifuge study. They had previously collaborated in the analysis of signals recorded in a similar campaign.

This time, they have an opportunity with data acquisition which officially started this week in Toulouse, France. Watch a short video of the preparation they did last Saturday.

Rabie Fadil, a Ph.D. student in the Biomedical Engineering program, will hopefully lead the analysis of these signals, recorded in the next three weeks, for a publication.
