Michelle Buehlmann<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Michelle Buehlmann, clinical assistant professor of Political Science & Public Administration, was recently named a recipient of the Chester A. Newland Presidential Citation of Merit from the American Society for Public Administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The award\u00a0recognizes\u00a0Buehlmann\u2019s\u00a0work in\u00a0establishing\u00a0the North Dakota chapter for ASPA in July 2025 \u2014 the first in the state\u2019s history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Buehlmann has been invited to accept the award at the organization\u2019s upcoming annual conference in late March. Luke Jones, visiting professor in the Department of Political Science & Public Administration, will accept the award on Buehlmann\u2019s behalf.<\/span><\/p>\n

The leading professional membership association for public service,\u00a0ASPA\u00a0brings together\u00a0practitioners\u00a0and academic communities to advance the practice and teaching of public administration, according to\u00a0<\/span>the organization\u2019s website<\/span><\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The University\u2019s Master of Public Administration program is the only of its kind in the state accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration, which leads UND to connecting students with public-service professionals and supporting the broader public administration community across the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

Establishing the ND ASPA chapter has been one way of helping strengthen those connections,\u00a0Buehlmann\u00a0said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since its\u00a0inception\u00a0last year,\u00a0Buehlmann\u00a0has led outreach efforts through tabling events, and ND ASPA recently hosted a wildfire response simulation in partnership with UND\u2019s MPA program and NASPAA.\u00a0During the exercise, experienced professionals from local and state government agencies worked directly with students to model collaborative problem-solving and share perspectives on public service.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
