UND says hello to all with Common App

Dear world: Hello! It’s nice to meet you. We’re the University of North Dakota!

We may not need any formal introductions in Hillsboro, Crosby or Hettinger, N.D., but it’s only right we let everyone in South Carolina, Texas and Oregon know who we are. The same goes for Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas and … you get the picture.

Just last month, UND became North Dakota’s first and only college or university to connect with prospective students nationwide through the Common App, an online tool that links us to students far and wide.

“This helps us attract the best students to UND and North Dakota,” UND Admissions Director Jennifer Aamodt said. “UND appears where it didn’t before, and that raises awareness about us. We’re also hoping students find the new application easier to complete and more intuitive. They can apply to UND from their phone.”

That’s right. Easy access. Easy app. Not only can students from anywhere tap into nearly 900 institutions from all 50 states and 20 countries, the app allows them to fill out a single — and universal — college application. There’s also a special (and FREE) resources and support tool kit for parents and high school counselors.

The nonprofit organization behind the Common App says it’s committed to the “pursuit of access, equity and integrity in the college admission process.” And in the past year alone, it cites some pretty impressive statistics:

  • More than 5 million applications.
  • More than 25 million recommendations submitted on behalf of students.
  • More than $65 million in fee waivers to students in need.
  • More than 1 million unique applicants — a third of them first-generation college students.
