Be first for scholarships, housing, classes

The early Fighting Hawk catches more than just worms. Students who take care of their University of North Dakota business now — rather than even a month or two later — have the best chance to catch scholarships and the first choice of housing and courses for fall 2020. Here’s what students need to do now:

  • Complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (a.k.a. FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. They’ll use 2018 income tax info, so they already have everything they need. (Except maybe UND’s code, 003005.) Every student should FINISH THE FAFSA because it decides more than just income-based grants.
  • Confirm their enrollment for fall 2020 by making the $200 nonrefundable confirmation deposit. This is a down payment — not an additional charge — that is applied to their first tuition payment. Students are required to confirm enrollment before signing up for orientation or registering for classes. The sooner they do it, the more choices they have.
  • Apply for housing. All first-year freshmen are required to live on campus for their first full academic year or receive an approved exemption. Quickness counts. Students who apply by the Feb. 1 priority deadline will get dibs on the first round of residence hall selection.

Students also can get a jump on meeting friends by joining the UND Class of 2024 Facebook group.
