Complete UND Orientation Steps, July 1 Deadline for U Card Photo, and More!

Your student’s first day as a UND Fighting Hawk is coming soon!
Now is the time to make sure your student is as prepared as possible.

If your student hasn’t done so already, please make sure they complete these action items as soon as possible.

1. Register for Classes and UND Orientation Day

At UND Orientation Days, your student will learn what to expect during their first year at UND, connect with other new UND students, visit with financial aid representatives and receive their student ID card.

By attending one of the dates scheduled for July 17-21 and 24-25 in Grand Forks, your student will be
in the best position to succeed when classes start.

If your student hasn’t registered yet, there is still time. Log into the UND Orientation Program Reservation System
at UND.edu/orientation and reserve a spot today!

2. Log into UND student email

If your student hasn’t done so, have them log into their UND student email to receive official UND communications.
Follow the directions at UND.edu/email.

Their UND email account is the official means by which UND will communicate with them.
Please encourage them to check their email often!

3. Complete the necessary steps for financial aid

Remember, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible at
studentaid.gov. UND’s code is 003005.
If your student received financial aid from UND, make sure they log into Campus Connection to accept/decline their award and take care of any holds or to-do list items.
If your student accepted a federal student loan, they must also complete Entrance Loan Counseling and
sign the Master Promissory Note.
For more information, refer to UND.edu/financial-aid.

4. Apply for campus housing

Your student is required to live in a residence hall for their first year at UND or have an approved
exemption on file with Housing & Residence Life.
Visit UND.edu/housing to research options, apply online or complete the Exemption Application
Form. Their room selection is based on the date they submit their housing application.

5. Select Dining Plan

Make sure your student self-selects a dining plan by June 30. Silver All-Access Dining Plans will be assigned for those who did not self-select. For more information refer to UND.edu/dining/meal-plans

6. Take care of health care needs

Students can access their patient health portal at myhealth.UND.edu to enter their required immunizations
and upload their records electronically. All newly admitted on-campus and online students
must provide documentation of the following:
• 2 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
• 1 dose of meningitis vaccination given after 16th birthday (if 21 or younger)
• TB (Tuberculosis) Screening Form
Make sure they take care of their medical needs, medications and immunizations and plan for
continuity in their health care. Learn about everything UND Student Health Services offers at
UND.edu/student-health.

7. Submit student ID photo by July 1

Students can upload their own student ID photo by July 1 at UND.edu/ucard. Please make sure to follow
the photo requirements.
If your student uploads their student ID photo by July 1, they’ll be able to pick up their U Card during
Orientation Days by showing a government issued photo identification card, e.g., driver’s
license, passport, etc.

8. Learn about computer purchases, software and support

University IT is available to provide recommendations about new computer purchases as well
as help with computer setup and software installation.
About one week before classes start, your student will be able to download free Microsoft Office 365
Apps, which include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook and more.
There are numerous printer kiosks across campus.
