Chani Taggart to give Surgery Grand Rounds on perioperative cardiac risk assessment on March 15

Chani Taggart, DO, a PGY-II resident in the UND Department of Surgery will present a talk entitled “Perioperative Cardiac Risk Assessment and Optimization” at Altru Health system in Grand Forks, N.D., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019. All are welcome to attend.

The objectives of her talk are to:

  • Describe the importance of perioperative risk assessment in patients with extensive cardiac history
  • Explain the history behind the development of common risk assessment tools today; NSQIP, ASA, Goldman Risk Assessment, Revised Cardiac Index
  • Describe general recommendations for evaluation and optimization of high cardiac risk patients
  • Describe the basic goals behind Perioperative Enhancement Teams (POET) and recent results seen with implementation of such groups
