Sim Center SHaPE program goes virtual

The SMHS Simulation Center‘s third-year clinical skills program, SHaPE (Supplemental History and Physical Enhancement), went virtual this week to comply with social/physical distancing guidelines. Students were split into groups of 12 and scheduled for one-hour long Zoom calls. Also in the call was Dr. Andrew McLean, Simulation Center staff members, and a standardized patient. Since the subject matter was psychiatry, only a patient interview was necessary. Students took turns asking questions over video or through the chat feature, and participated in a debrief after the simulation ended. So far, feedback on the shift in content delivery has been positive and constructive.

This trial run was helpful as the Sim Center moves forward with more virtual simulations. For more information, contact Stephanie Flyger at stephanie.flyger@UND.edu.
