A recent faculty development needs assessment survey revealed that productivity and organization are universal challenges, and it is easy to see why. Increased demands placed on us by remote access, technology, and demands outside of work such as home-schooling and family care have made it hard to meet our professional responsibilities as educators without sacrificing quality of learning. Remote teaching takes extra time, and hybrid or HyFlex teaching can feel like twice the effort for half the result.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Long before COVID-19, Adrienne Salentiny, Ph.D., instructional designer in the SMHS Department of Education Resources, became interested in finding efficiencies in the design and delivery of high-quality active learning. Join her for this workshop to learn practical, applied techniques for managing the chaos of COVID-19 without sacrificing quality:

  • Design active learning by being pro-active rather than re-active.
  • Apply active learning principles such as peer review and student-led discussion that increase student learning and let you use your time more effectively.
  • Learn productivity tips, tricks, and easy-to-use tools for creating efficiencies.
  • Hear how your peers are managing their short- and long-term goals.

Come ready to discuss your challenges. We will work together to solve them!

This faculty development session is part of the Evidence-Based Teaching (EBT) series hosted by the Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship unit of Education Resources and the Office of Education and Faculty Affairs. This series, held every third Thursday of the month, showcases topics of interest to the medical and health education community and is free and open to anyone at UND. Previous faculty development sessions can be streamed from our website.

If you have any questions, would like more information, or would like to suggest a future meeting topic, please contact Adrienne Salentiny (adrienne.salentiny@UND.edu).
