Lucas Holkup to give Surgery Grand Rounds on improving communication with patients on Oct. 9
Lucas Holkup, M.D., a PGY-V resident in the UND Department of Surgery, will present a talk entitled “Improving Communication with Patients with Life-threatening Surgical Conditions” at Sanford Medical Center Broadway in Fargo, N.D., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2020. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The objectives of Dr. Holkup’s talk are to:
- Identify clinical scenarios with risk of high morbidity/mortality
- Identify patient, surgeon and system factors that are barriers to effective communication
- Structure an effective discussion regarding goals of care
- Describe ethical issues concerning informed consent in acute surgical patients
