Zachery Staskywicz to give Surgery Grand Rounds on metabolism and TPN on Nov. 20
Zachery Staskywicz, M.D., a PGY-II resident in the UND Department of Surgery, will present a talk entitled “Metabolism and TPN in the surgical patient” at Altru Health System in Grand Forks, N.D., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020. All are welcome to attend.
The objectives of Dr. Staskywicz’s talk are:
- Describe the basics of substrate metabolism as it pertains to surgical patients.
- Describe the basics of nutritional assessment in surgical patients.
- Demonstrate how to calculate the nutritional requirements for a 70 kg patient.
- Identify when it is appropriate to initiate TPN use in a non-critically ill postoperative patient.
