Zachery Staskywicz to give Surgery Grand Rounds on metabolism and TPN on Nov. 20

Zachery Staskywicz, M.D., a PGY-II resident in the UND Department of Surgery, will present a talk entitled “Metabolism and TPN in the surgical patient” at Altru Health System in Grand Forks, N.D., from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020. All are welcome to attend.

The objectives of Dr. Staskywicz’s talk are:

  1. Describe the basics of substrate metabolism as it pertains to surgical patients.
  2. Describe the basics of nutritional assessment in surgical patients.
  3. Demonstrate how to calculate the nutritional requirements for a 70 kg patient.
  4. Identify when it is appropriate to initiate TPN use in a non-critically ill postoperative patient.

This Surgery Grand Rounds Conference, sponsored by the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences Department of Surgery, is broadcast via video conference to many sites in North Dakota and Minnesota.
