Third annual ‘Out of the Darkness’ campus walk for suicide awareness to occur virtually on April 25

The third annual UND Out of the Darkness (UND OOTD) Campus Walk Committee is in the planning stages for a walk that will take place virtually on Sunday, April 25, 2021.

UND OOTD is the only Campus Walk in the state of North Dakota; its purpose is to fight suicide and raise awareness about mental health.

“Our goal is creating a culture that’s aware of mental health issues within the UND and Grand Forks communities,” said Ann O’Connell, a second-year medical student at UND and one of the event’s organizers.

This event is sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s (AFSP) North Dakota Chapter through funds raised here at UND! The 2019 and 2020 Walks combined raised just under $50,000, and 100% of proceeds raised are dedicated to suicide awareness and prevention programs sponsored by AFSP. Half of these funds are dedicated to such programming within the state of North Dakota.
