Eric Johnson named to ADA Professional Practice Committee

Eric Johnson, M.D., professor in the SMHS Department of Family & Community Medicine and the School’s director of interprofessional education, was recently given a 2-year term on the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Professional Practice Committee. This committee formulates the Association’s “Standard of Care” guidelines annually and develops position papers and policy updates. The “Standards” are published in the journal Diabetes Care every January as a special issue.
A longtime member of the group, Johnson served on the ADA’s Primary Care Advisory Group from 2011-20. This group writes the “Abridged Standards of Care for Primary Care” that are published annually in the journal Clinical Diabetes. Johnson was lead editor of this document and committee chair from 2017-20. This group also hosts a “Diabetes is Primary” series, an education program for primary care providers, pharmacists, and other health care professionals, in-person and virtually.
Dr. Johnson has also provided invited articles on diabetes technology for the ADA journals Clinical Diabetes (Dec. 2020) and Diabetes Spectrum (Jan. 2022).
Congratulations, Dr. Johnson!
