Salentiny named director of instructional design and technology

Adrienne Salentiny, Ph.D., has been named director of instructional design and technology for the SMHS Office of Education Resources and named assistant professor in the Department of Population Health. Formerly the instructional designer in the Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (TLAS) unit of Education Resources, Salentiny will take on an expanded role in the new position.

“This new position is a reflection of the growth in TLAS around faculty development, teaching innovation, and consultation across the school, as well as the expanding curriculum design and evaluation needs of the medical program redesign,” said Richard Van Eck, Ph.D., associate dean for teaching and learning and the Monson Endowed Chair for Medical Education, who will supervise the position. “We were fortunate to have such an outstanding candidate for the position. She can step in on day one.”

Salentiny joined UND SMHS Education Resources in 2017 as an instructional designer. Prior to the role, she had 12 years of experience at UND in the Division of Public Safety, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education & Human Development, the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, and the Division of Continuing Education. Salentiny has also taught graduate courses at UND, the College of St. Scholastica, and the University of Maryland Global Campus. Her background and experience as the instructional designer in Education Resources prepares her well for an expanded leadership role in the continuous improvement of TLAS faculty development programming, working with medical curriculum leaders on evaluation and management in support of student success and accreditation activities, and supporting faculty education scholarship.

“We are very excited about the expanded capacity that this new position brings,” said Van Eck, “especially regarding education scholarship. Dr. Salentiny already had an active scholarship portfolio, including conference presentations and publications, and she is the Co-PI on a multi-institution faculty development grant. This is a faculty position will allow her to focus even more time on independent and collaborative scholarship.”

TLAS will hire a new instructional designer to fill Salentiny’s previous position to continue the work in faculty development and to expand efforts in technology-based learning and innovation.

“I am excited about the additional challenges and growth that this new position offers,” said Salentiny, “as well as the expanded instructional design services and faculty development that TLAS will be able to offer once we hire a new instructional designer.”

Dr. Salentiny earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Instructional Design & Technology, both from UND. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and lives in Grand Forks with her husband and daughter.
