TLAS, AAMC offer faculty development session on authentic doctor-patient communication skills Feb. 23
On Feb. 23, 2023, at noon (CST), Dr. Heeyoung Han from Southern Illinois University Medical School will present “Authentic Doctor-Patient Communication Skills,” a faculty development offering made possible by a grant from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Central Group on Educational Affairs. Last fall, co-principal investigators Dr. Adrienne Salentiny (UND SMHS) and Dr. Boyung Suh (Southern Illinois University Medical School) and colleagues from four other medical schools in the midwest received the aforementioned grant for the development and evaluation of a collaborative faculty development program. This program seeks to address a need for a robust, scalable faculty development program that leverages sharable resources among faculty development practitioners at medical schools across the region and beyond.
Medical educators from six schools in four states continue to work together to develop a virtual multi-institutional faculty development model that allows us to share expertise and resources in support of student and faculty success. Among the core foci of this program are education for clinical faculty and preceptors and faculty success in research and promotion.
Programming like the event described above is now easily accessible to faculty at UND, nationally, and internationally. Additional programming from regional experts will be offered throughout the spring and early summer. Registration links are available for each virtual event.
The six schools participating in this project are the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Central Michigan University College of Medicine, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, the University of Michigan Medical School, and the Ohio State College of Medicine.
