John Bassett to discuss hepatic encephalopathy at next Neurology Grand Rounds on March 28

Key Point(s):
- Hepatic encephalopathy prevalence usually corresponds with the degree of liver dysfunction.
- High ammonia in the setting of chronic liver disease provides no additional diagnostic, staging, or prognostic value.
- It is critical to differentiate hepatic encephalopathy from chronic neurodegenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s, small vessel vascular disease, etc.).
