John Mellinger to give James Lectureship at annual Surgery Resident Research Colloquium on June 20

Please join the UND Department of Surgery on June 20, 2024, as it hosts its annual Edwin C. James Lectureship and Surgery Resident Research Colloquium at the Avalon Events Center in Fargo, N.D., from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Surgery residents in PGY 1-2 will present research posters from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and surgery residents PGY 3-5 will present podium research presentations from 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Edwin C. James Lectureship will feature John Mellinger, M.D., FACS, vice president for the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and professor emeritus of surgery at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Mellinger will discuss Entrustable Professional Activities from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. He received his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University and completed residency training in general surgery at the Blodgett/St. Mary’s Hospitals in Grand Rapids, Mich., followed by a surgical endoscopy fellowship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He has also completed a Surgical Education Research Fellowship through the Association for Surgical Education (ASE). He served on active duty in the United States Air Force, and has had academic appointments at Wright State University, Michigan State University, and the Medical College of Georgia prior to his most recent duties at SIU.
