From the Dean: Campus building project updates
As I mentioned in last week’s For Your Health column, we are working on facility upgrades and improvements at multiple SMHS sites throughout the state. Thanks to Tom Peterson in the Office of Administration and Finance at the School for preparing the following list of projects. We have work planned or underway on and in our main building on the UND campus in Grand Forks, as well as at our three regional campuses in Fargo, Bismarck, and Minot. Listed below are the major projects that are active at this time:
UND Northeast (Grand Forks) campus
- New clinic for Sports Medicine: A new sports medicine clinic is being designed to occupy space in the UND University Health building that currently also houses the Altru Health System Family Medicine Residency program, located at 725 Hamline Street in Grand Forks. The new clinic design is being finalized and we expect internal construction/renovation to begin in August 2024, with opening of the remodeled space expected in early spring of 2025.
- Indians Into Medicine (INMED) space: The INMED program has a new location in Suite E251 of the SMHS building on the UND campus. The space has been completely updated with a new communal design, new furnishings, and state-of-the-art technology.
- SMHS outside landscaping: The Grand Forks building has been undergoing a complete update of its outdoor landscaping. This project is ongoing, with expected completion in September 2024.
- SMHS outdoor signage: Two new lighted signs are being installed on the north side of the building, mounted on the west and east corners. Installation is in progress with expected completion in mid-August 2024. A ground level monument sign will be installed this fall on the south side of the building.
Southeast (Fargo) campus
- Fargo Medical Education building: A new location is planned in southwest Fargo, closer to both the Sanford and Essentia hospitals. Floor plan and furnishing designs are complete and needed renovation of the interior space is expected to start in August 2024 with occupancy in early spring 2025.
Southwest (Bismarck) campus
- Bismarck Center for Family Medicine: New carpet has been installed. Updates to paint and some furniture replacement are underway with completion expected in late fall of 2024.
- Southwest Campus: New carpet will be installed and updates to paint are planned with completion in late fall of 2024. New furniture designs are being finalized, with delivery expected also in late fall of 2024.
Northwest (Minot) campus
- Minot Center for Family Medicine: The basement space has been completely remodeled, including all new furniture; the project is expected to be completed in August 2024. New waiting room replacement furniture for the main floor will be delivered in August 2024.
- Northwest Campus: A new location for the regional campus in Minot has been identified. Floor plan and furnishing designs are complete and renovation of the interior space is expected to start in early fall 2024 with occupancy in early spring 2025.
These exciting facility upgrades will further enhance the already excellent facilities that we have throughout the state and will help optimize the educational experience for our students. I would encourage you to request a tour of the UND SMHS facility near you. To arrange such a tour, please contact Kristen Peterson, administrative assistant in the Office of Alumni and Community Relations, at kristen.peterson@UND.edu or 701.777.4305 or the regional campuses.
