Wellness resources @SMHS
Recognizing that each student has their own way of coping with stress, and their own personal (and evolving) definition of well-being, the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences provides students with two wellness advocates (Michelle Montgomery and Melissa Naslund) who are trained to empower students to define and strive towards their own sense of well-being and bring their full selves to their work as health providers.
Led by Dr. Andy McLean, associate dean for wellness, the SMHS wellness team follows the eight-spoked “wellness wheel” model, helping students understand that wellness is not just a physical concept but includes social, spiritual, intellectual, financial, environmental, occupational, and emotional components.
And because wellness is important for all of us, SMHS faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the School’s wellness website too!
Faculty and staff in the health professions play a vital role in shaping the future of American healthcare. However, the demands of your position can be intense, making it essential to prioritize your own wellness and/or well-being. A healthy work-life balance not only enhances your own quality of life but also positively impacts your students and colleagues.
Visit the Wellness team’s faculty/staff webpage to learn practical tips to help you prioritize your wellness and well-being, especially as we enter the holiday season.
Be well!
