Trauma surgeon Dr. Blair Matheson to speak at SMHS on Jan. 14

The SMHS Indians Into Medicine (INMED) program is hosting trauma surgeon Dr. Blair Matheson for a talk on equity in medical education on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Dr. Matheson will present in the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences INMED suite (E251) and via Zoom starting at 3:30 p.m.

A member of the Cherokee Nation, Dr. Matheson is medical director for National Medical Resources, a firm that provides locum tenens physician, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner staffing solutions. A North Dakota resident, Dr. Matheson primarily serves rural Native American populations. His practice is in general surgery and emergency medicine with a specialization in trauma. Dr. Matheson also serves as Board President for the Association of American Indian Physicians, which his father, Dr. Thomas Matheson, helped found in 1971.

In addition to an undergraduate degree from Stanford, Dr. Matheson holds an M.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He completed a residency in general surgery at Maricopa County Hospital and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and a residency in family practice at the University of Oklahoma.
