Westereng to be given Athletic Trainer Service Award by the National Athletic Trainers Association

Congratulations are in order to Steve Westereng, Ph.D., ATC, LAT, CSCS, chair of the SMHS Department of Sports Medicine, who will be recognized with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Athletic Trainer Service Award at this year’s NATA Convention in Orlando, Fla.
The award was announced early this week and recognizes NATA members for their commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy and professional activities at the local and state levels. The Athletic Trainer Service Award recipients have been involved in professional association, community organizations, grassroots public relations efforts, and service as a volunteer athletic trainer.
“I am extremely grateful to be nominated and selected for the NATA Service Award,” said Westereng. “Being a recipient of this award is special to me because of the recognition coming from my peers within the profession of athletic training on a national level.”
According to SMHS Associate Dean for Health Sciences, Dave Relling, P.T., Ph.D., Westereng’s 30 years of extensive service and leadership contributions to the state, regional, and national athletic training associations have not gone unnoticed.
“Receiving the NATA Service Award is a testament to Dr. Westereng’s tireless efforts and passion for the field of athletic training,” said Relling. “His contributions have elevated the profession and inspired countless individuals to strive for excellence. We are incredibly proud of Dr. Westereng and congratulate him on this substantial achievement.”
