SMHS representatives present at national Digestive Disease Week conference in San Diego
A collection of UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) faculty, residents, and medical students is just back from presenting at the Digestive Disease Week (DDW) conference in San Diego, Calif.
According to the conference’s website, DDW is “the premier meeting for professionals working in gastroenterology, hepatology, GI endoscopy, gastrointestinal surgery and related fields.”
Attending this year’s annual conference with third-year SMHS students Emilee Ohman and Benjamin Kearney, plus second year Department of Internal Medicine resident Dr. Hussam Almasri, was Dr. John Bassett, associate professor in the SMHS Department of Internal Medicine and chair of the Sanford Health Department of Gastroenterology.
Contributing to the poster but not able to attend the conference was third-year medical student Miriah Forness.
“Each of our students showed significant initiative with their contributions and are considering gastroenterology as a career field,” said Bassett, who also serves as President of the North Dakota Medical Association’s First District in Fargo. “We are an aging specialty in need of some young, talented physicians!”
The group’s poster was titled “Decoding gastrointestinal bleeding in patients using DAPT after PCI, characteristics multifactored predictors and the effect of CYP2C19 genotype variation unveiled.”
