UND Geriatrics team to host virtual Age-Friendly Symposium for American Indian Elders on March 4

On Wednesday, March 4, UND’s Department of Geriatrics and the Dakota Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) are hosting a virtual Age-Friendly Symposium for American Indian Elders.

Taking place online from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., this symposium is a free learning opportunity for providers, healthcare professionals, and community workers interested in applying age-friendly healthcare in American Indian populations.

Upon completion of this program, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe how to transform clinical operations into age-friendly healthcare.
  • Reliably apply Geriatric 4M assessments.
  • Implement action plan for Geriatric syndromes.

Schedule:

  • 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. – “Look to the Mountain: An ecology of Indigenous Education” with Gregory Cajete, Ph.D.
  • 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. – “Honoring Tradition in Nutrition Care for Native American Elders” with Shauna Parisien, R.D.N.
  • 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. – “Healing Rooted in Compassion” with Johanna Farmer, J.D.
  • 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. – “Incorporating Mobility in Everyday Life” with Ruth De La Cruz, Ph.D., and Devon Headdress, B.S.
