Gura takes second place at Johns Hopkins University symposium
Kaitlyn Gura, a doctoral student in the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences Department of Biomedical Sciences, was awarded second place for her poster presentation at the Fourth Annual Tick Borne Diseases Symposium, held recently at Johns Hopkins University.
Gura recently successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, and will be graduating from UND next week with her new Ph.D. before continuing to pursue an M.D. degree from UND in July.
gura has been enrolled in UND’s Biomedical Sciences graduate program since 2022 and received the prestigious National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) award in 2024. She has received several other awards during her time at UND, including first prize in the Graduate and Postdoctoral Oral Presentations portion of UND’s Host-Pathogens Interactions Symposium in 2024, first place in the School’s Graduate Oral Presentations portion of UND’s Epigenetics Symposium in 2024, the Brannon Merrifield Award in 2026, and the 2026 UND Medical Student Scholarship.
A company commander with the North Dakota Army National Guard, Kaitlyn was also the first female Recruitment Sustainment Program Company Commander with the Guard. She received the Army Commendation Medal for Command Time in 2024.
