Surgery, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry & Behavioral Science residency programs announce new directors

The UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences (SMHS) residency programs in Pediatric Medicine, Psychiatry, and Surgery have all named new program directors.

Listed alphabetically by discipline, the new residency directors include:

Pediatrics

Steffany Moen, M.D., M.S., FAAP, is the new director of UND’s Pediatric Residency Program, having served as co-associate program director since 2023. She is a North Dakota native and earned her bachelor’s degree from UND.

A Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics who has been with UND since 2017, Dr. Moen earned her M.D. from the University of Minnesota in 2010. She completed her pediatric residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin and then pursued a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Indiana University/Riley Hospital for Children. She has been practicing as a neonatologist at Sanford Health in Fargo since completing her fellowship training.

Dr. Moen is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is licensed in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. She maintains memberships with the North Dakota Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors.

“It has been exciting to watch Dr. Chris Tiongson’s vision for a pediatric residency program in North Dakota come to fruition over the past few years,” said Dr. Moen, “and I am honored to be leading our team as we continue to grow our program and train the next generation of pediatricians.”

Psychiatry

Likewise, Dr. Lisa Schock, formerly associate director of UND’s Psychiatry Residency Training Program and clerkship director for UND’s Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science, is now residency program director. A North Dakota native, Dr. Schock received her medical degree from UND and served as Chief Resident in the Psychiatry Residency Training Program. She also has a clinical practice in Fargo.

“Caring for patients and teaching are the passions that make my work rewarding,” said Dr. Schock. “I am excited to continue to have an impact on psychiatric care and medical education across the region. UND has been my ‘home’ throughout my education and career, and it is an honor to give back to the School that has meant so much to me over the years.”

Dr. Andrew McLean, chair of the SMHS Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science, agreed.

“We all feel that while our retiring director Dr. Robert Olson is ‘irreplaceable,’ Dr. Schock will do a wonderful job,” said McLean. “Please join me in welcoming Dr. Schock.”

Surgery

Finally, Colette R. Pameijer, M.D., FACS, FSSO, has been named the new director of the UND General Surgery Residency Program.

Chair of the Department Surgical Oncology at Sanford Health in Fargo, Dr. Pameijer is a professor of surgery with the SMHS who earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania – Philadelphia in 1995. After a surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Pameijer completed a surgical oncology fellowship at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, Calif.

A widely-published physician-researcher with a history of bringing extramural research funding to her institutions, Pameijer is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (in addition to being a member of the Society of University Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology).

“I am excited to shape the development of the next generation of surgeons, to meet the needs of North Dakota and the rural Midwest, and set the bar for excellence in general surgery training,” said Dr. Pameijer.

“Since her arrival at Sanford Fargo and the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Dr. Pameijer has been an extraordinarily effective educator and advocate for our general surgery residents,” added Dr. Cornelius Dyke, chair of the SMHS Department of Surgery. “I am very pleased to welcome her as our new Program Director.”
