The SMHS has two big Homecoming events today \u2013 a continuing medical education symposium this morning, titled \u00a0\u201cInterprofessional Approaches to Wellness,\u201d and our annual Homecoming Banquet this evening, focusing on 30 years of our School housing UND\u2019s athletic training (AT) program. Ours was the first AT program in the country to report to a medical college dean, and we have almost 100 guests confirmed for tonight, so it promises to be a fun event! Other events on the calendar for today include the ribbon-cutting ceremony for UND\u2019s Wilkerson Quad, with the unveiling of the new Landing Zone and the re-opening of Brannon, McVey, and West residence halls.<\/p>\n<p>Of special interest this afternoon is the event in the Memorial Union hosted jointly by UND and the <a href=\"https:\/\/undalumni.org\/giving-impact\/colleges-programs\/medicine-health-sciences.html\">UND Alumni Association and Foundation<\/a> (UNDAAF) called <em>Forever Starts Here: A Celebration for the Future. <\/em>It promises to be a very exciting glimpse at what lies ahead for the University and the Foundation as they work together\u2026forever!<\/p>\n<p>Also sharing the spotlight this week is the fall meeting of the UNDAAF Board of Directors that meets in the Gorecki Alumni Center. Many of us celebrated together last night and honored the latest awardees at the 2023 Alumni Awards Banquet. This year\u2019s awardees include Dr. Robert Boyd, Monica Musich, Arlen Nordhagen, Don Schmid, and Marilyn Vetter. Also lauded were Josh Brandsted and Sally Miskavige, this year\u2019s recipients of the 2023 Young Alumni Achievement Award.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndmed.org\/\">North Dakota Medical Association<\/a> hosted its annual meeting in Grand Forks yesterday and today. By the time you have read this, I\u2019ve likely completed my meeting with the assembled members as I discuss what\u2019s happening at the SMHS. Called \u201cBreakfast with the Dean,\u201d the morning meeting is a wonderful opportunity to meet with physicians from across the state. It\u2019s vitally important that a school such as ours stays in touch with health practitioners from across the state, since we rely on them to help educate our students when the students are out on clinical placements across the state. We greatly appreciate their teaching efforts. As I\u2019m fond of saying when extending thanks to them for their educational contributions, \u201cwe couldn\u2019t do it without you!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Homecoming 2023 wraps up tomorrow.
