{"id":11432,"date":"2024-01-25T08:48:28","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T14:48:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/?p=11432"},"modified":"2024-01-25T08:48:28","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T14:48:28","slug":"department-of-physician-assistant-studies-to-present-white-coats-to-physician-assistant-class-of-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/2024\/01\/25\/department-of-physician-assistant-studies-to-present-white-coats-to-physician-assistant-class-of-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Physician Assistant Studies to present white coats to Physician Assistant Class of 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thirty-three University of North Dakota School of Medicine &amp; Health Sciences (SMHS) physician assistant (PA) students are set to begin the clinical portion of their studies in early February in an effort to earn their <a href=\"https:\/\/med.und.edu\/education-training\/physician-assistant\/index.html\">Master of Physician Assistant Studies<\/a>\u00a0(MPAS) degree.<\/p>\n<p>To this end, the Physician Assistant Class of 2025 will receive its white coats at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024, in the University of North Dakota\u2019s Chester Fritz Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stream the White Coat Ceremony\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/undsmhs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe presentation of the white coat is symbolic of the new profession the students are entering,\u201d said Department of Physician Assistant Studies Chair Jeanie McHugo, Ph.D., PA-C. \u201cThe coats will be worn by students through the clinical phase of their training and denote their involvement with the PA program at UND.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students have already completed their first two semesters of basic science instruction, and now transition into the clinical aspect of their curriculum in the didactic setting before beginning their primary care clinical experiences under the supervision of physician and PA preceptors. Over the next 18 months, they will return to UND for several weeks at different junctures for additional education and training.<\/p>\n<p>Eighty seven percent of the Class of 2025 is from North Dakota and Minnesota. Students range in age from 21 to 51 years, with an average age of 27.
