{"id":12422,"date":"2024-11-21T12:40:38","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T18:40:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/?p=12422"},"modified":"2024-11-21T12:51:38","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T18:51:38","slug":"wellness-resources-smhs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/2024\/11\/21\/wellness-resources-smhs\/","title":{"rendered":"Wellness resources @SMHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recognizing that each student has their own way of coping with stress, and their own personal (and evolving) definition of well-being, the UND School of Medicine &amp; Health Sciences provides students with two <strong>wellness advocates<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/campus.und.edu\/directory\/m.montgomery\">Michelle Montgomery<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.und.edu\/directory\/melissa.naslund\">Melissa Naslund<\/a>) who are trained to empower students to define and strive towards their own sense of well-being and bring their full selves to their work as health providers.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Dr. Andy McLean, associate dean for wellness, the SMHS wellness team follows the eight-spoked &#8220;wellness wheel&#8221; model, helping students understand that wellness is not just a physical concept but includes social, spiritual, intellectual, financial, environmental, occupational, and emotional components.<\/p>\n<p>And because wellness is important for all of us, SMHS faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the School&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/med.und.edu\/education-training\/wellness\/index.html\">wellness website<\/a>\u00a0too!<\/p>\n<p>Faculty and staff in the health professions play a vital role in shaping the future of American healthcare.
