{"id":12681,"date":"2024-11-08T06:37:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T12:37:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/?p=12681"},"modified":"2024-11-08T06:37:58","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T12:37:58","slug":"inmed-to-co-sponsor-screening-and-discussion-of-sugarcane-in-grand-forks-on-nov-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/2024\/11\/08\/inmed-to-co-sponsor-screening-and-discussion-of-sugarcane-in-grand-forks-on-nov-8\/","title":{"rendered":"INMED to co-sponsor screening and discussion of &#8216;Sugarcane&#8217; in Grand Forks on Nov. 8"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mailpoet_wp_post\">UND&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/med.und.edu\/education-training\/indians-into-medicine\/index.html\">Indians Into Medicine<\/a> (INMED) program is co-sponsoring a FREE screening and discussion of the documentary film\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sugarcanefilm.com\/\">Sugarcane<\/a>, taking place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on <strong>Friday, Nov. 8<\/strong>, at the Empire Arts Center (415 Demers Ave, Grand Forks).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mailpoet_wp_post\">Serving as an investigation into abuse and a history of missing children at an Indigenous residential school in Canada,\u00a0<em>Sugarcane<\/em> illuminates the heartbreak and beauty of a community breaking cycles of intergenerational trauma and finding the strength to survive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mailpoet_wp_post\">The film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it won the &#8220;Directing Award: U.S. Documentary&#8221; and has since garnered over a dozen awards and multiple critics&#8217; choice nominations and has been acquired by National Geographic Documentary Films.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mailpoet_wp_post\">Following the screening, organizers will host a Q&amp;A with directors Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mailpoet_wp_post\">Refreshments will be served starting @4:30 p.m. Film screening @5 p.m. The conversation with the film&#8217;s directors will immediately follow the screening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mailpoet_wp_post\"><strong>Questions?
