{"id":15748,"date":"2026-10-29T09:21:31","date_gmt":"2026-10-29T14:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/?p=15748"},"modified":"2026-10-29T09:21:31","modified_gmt":"2026-10-29T14:21:31","slug":"significant-accomplishment-unds-physician-assistant-program-granted-arc-pa-accreditation-through-2036","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/for-your-health\/2026\/10\/29\/significant-accomplishment-unds-physician-assistant-program-granted-arc-pa-accreditation-through-2036\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Significant accomplishment&#8217;: UND&#8217;s Physician Assistant program granted ARC-PA accreditation through 2036"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The UND School of Medicine &amp; Health Sciences (SMHS) <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/med.und.edu\/education-training\/physician-assistant\/index.html\">Department of Physician Assistant Studies<\/a><\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> has been granted Accreditation-Continued status by the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arc-pa.org\/\">Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant<\/a><\/strong> (ARC-PA), the national Physician Assistant (PA) accrediting body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThis is a significant accomplishment for our program and is a testament to the dedication of so many individuals who have contributed to its success over the years,\u201d said Jay Metzger, Ph.D., PA-C, chair of North Dakota\u2019s only physician assistant training program. \u201cFor more than five decades, we have remained focused on preparing highly qualified physician assistants to serve patients and communities, particularly for service in rural and underserved areas. This accreditation affirms both the quality of our program and our ongoing commitment to that mission.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The ARC-PA decision on reaccrediting UND\u2019s program comes after an extensive accreditation review process that included a comprehensive self-study by Metzger\u2019s team and an on-site evaluation earlier this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Established in 1970, UND\u2019s Physician Assistant program was among the earliest PA programs in the U.S. and has maintained continuous accreditation since 1974. Over the years, the program has evolved to meet the changing needs of healthcare delivery while remaining focused on preparing healthcare professionals to address workforce needs for the people of North Dakota and the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Today, the 24-month Master of Physician Assistant Studies program combines online coursework, classroom instruction, and clinical experiences in a distinctive hybrid educational model that allows students to develop and apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of healthcare settings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The program graduates more than 30 PAs annually, many of whom go to serve rural and underserved communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAn accomplishment like this is truly a team effort.
