\"\"The\u00a0Dakota Cancer Collaborative on Translational Activity (DaCCoTA) is pleased to announce a call for applications for several professional development and pilot project grant opportunities. The goal of DaCCoTA is to stimulate growth of expertise and engagement in cancer-related clinical and translational research (CTR) in the Dakota region.<\/p>\n

The Professional Development Core<\/strong> is currently seeking proposals for the following funding mechanisms:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. DaCCoTA Scholars Program<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0The purpose of this award is to stimulate the development of new CTR investigators. Awardees will receive salary support (50% FTE plus fringe) that guarantees a minimum of 50% protected research time for the project and up to $50,000 in annual research support for up to 5 years. DaCCoTA will provide the first three years of funding, and the final two years will be funded by the applicant\u2019s home institution (contingent on adequate progress). The DaCCoTA Scholars Program offers both a basic and community engagement track, and early career faculty are encouraged to apply.<\/li>\n
  2. Clinical Research Opportunities Program<\/b>\u00a0– This program provides 20% release time (up to NIH cap) to community-practicing, hospital-based clinicians to allow for participation in training activities and collaboration in cancer-focused CTR. The goal of the program is to begin to shift translational cancer research in the Upper Midwest to an enterprise informed by the patient.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The DaCCoTA Pilot Projects Program<\/strong> has also released new RFAs for the following pilot grant awards:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Feasibility Pilot Grants<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 These awards of up to $60,000 (direct + indirect costs) are intended to provide support to allow a clinician\/non-clinician team to form around a novel cancer-related hypothesis. Applications can consider the multilevel manifestations of cancer (e.g. neurological, psychiatric), demographic risks, and social impact. Applications should focus on T2-T4 translational research, although T1 studies will be considered if there is a clear plan to progress to T2-T4. The primary goal is to allow a team to form and connect with the DaCCoTA Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design Core; Clinical Research Resources and Facilities Core; Community Engagement and Outreach Core; and Pilot Projects Program to generate competitive proposals for the DaCCoTA Ready-to-Go Pilot Award mechanism.<\/li>\n
    2. Ready-to-Go Pilot Grants<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 These awards of up to $120,000 (direct + indirect costs) are intended for projects with significant existing preliminary data in support of a novel clinical\/translational cancer-related hypothesis.\u00a0These projects should ideally be ready for extramural submission within a year and\/or be able to demonstrably improve health outcomes.<\/i>\u00a0Applications can consider the multilevel manifestations of cancer (e.g. neurological, psychiatric), demographic risks, and social impact. Applications will focus on T2-T4\u00a0<\/b>translational research, although T1 studies will be considered if there is a clear plan to progress to T2-T4. Successful completion of these proposals should lead to a collaborative extramural grant submission and peer-reviewed manuscript submission.<\/li>\n
    3. Community Engagement Pilot Grants<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 These awards are intended for projects addressing priority areas determined by key stakeholder groups. Proposals should address cancer disparities in: colorectal cancer screening, stage at diagnosis, treatment, and mortality; tobacco-related cancers (Lung, CRC, etc.); or breast cancer screening, stage at diagnosis, and mortality.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Letters of intent are due\u00a0Oct. 30, 2021; full applications are due Jan. 17, 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n
