Is the program somewhere that you can see yourself?<\/li>\n<li>Perhaps you should be more selective in your acceptances.<\/li>\n<li>Did you apply to more than one specialty? How do you know? Start with your campus dean or Dr. Dorscher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Are you feeling unprepared for the interview? <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be yourself! Your personality and knowledge have gotten you this far.<\/li>\n<li>Realize that you are interviewing programs as much as they are interviewing you.<\/li>\n<li>If you feel that the program is prestigious but you would be miserable there, ask yourself \u201cis it really worth it?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>There really are no right answers or wrong answers in interviews; just go with your instincts and training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Things to think about before the interview:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Anticipate hypothetical questions. There are no right or wrong answers; interviewers are looking to see how you think and reason.<\/li>\n<li>Consider open-ended interview questions. Know your assets, and goals and how they match with those of the program.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Behavioral&#8221; interview questions? These are designed to see if you have the right skills, attitudes, and qualities for the program. For Example: &#8220;Tell me about the most difficult decision you had to make in the past six months.&#8221; A superficial \u201cnon-answer\u201d is bad. A better\u00a0answer show you gathering data, considering personal and professional biases, and deciding when to make the choice.<\/li>\n<li>Or if you get asked: &#8220;Tell me about a time when you made a mistake,&#8221; never say &#8220;I can\u2019t think of any mistakes.\u201d Instead, describe how you addressed the mistake and how you corrected it.<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re asked to speak about your proudest professional accomplishment, be sure to have accomplishments in mind. It&#8217;s okay to be appropriately proud, just not arrogant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Are you having a blast on the interview trail?\u00a0<\/strong>Send photos, share your experiences with Dr. Dorscher. She will use them to help others have fun too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Did you find a great way to save money on interviews? <\/strong>Share the information with Dr. Dorscher so she can share it with next year\u2019s class.
