Bev Fetter Receives UND Meritorious Service Award

Hundreds Cheer as Fetter Receives 2010 Meritorious Service Award from UND

Bev Fetter, administrative assistant in the Department of Space Studies, recently received the 2010 Meritorious Service Award from UND at the spring Staff Recognition Luncheon on May 18th. A total of ten $1,000 Meritorious Service Awards were given in recognition of individuals who best reflect honor upon the University and the community through a combination of job performance, relationship with associates, and the ability to relate their work to the missions and values of the University.

Bev was not notified in advance that she was the recipient of the Award. She was rather baffled as to why all the faculty and staff of Space Studies and some of her family showed up at the lunch. It was not until her name was announced that she knew why her family and so many of her colleagues were there. It was a fine surprise!

The citation which was read announcing her Award said: As one nominator wrote, “In my three decades of experience in private industry, government, and academia, spanning five countries and four continents, rarely have I come across someone who shows such a high level of commitment, and consistently goes above and beyond expectations. She plays a critical part in the recruitment and retention of students in our program.” This outstanding employee is pro-active and calls other departments on behalf of student and faculty to resolve problems and to take care of routine business, always making sure deadlines are met. She has a way of remaining neutral and positive during times of disagreements and differences. One student said, “She has the tact and the ability of a Fortune 500 CEO!” Her eye for detail, resourcefulness and intelligence ensures that every job is done right the first time. Students from over the world consider attending UND, but many have said their mind was made up after talking to this employee. She is an excellent representative of UND and exemplifies a culture of dedication and excellence.

Bev was also recognized at the event for her twenty years of service to the University.
