Space Studies Hosts Academic High Altitude Conference
The 5th Annual Academic High Altitude Conference took place at UND on June 23-27. The focus of this national conference is on the technical aspects, research possibilities, and educational benefits of high altitude ballooning. The first two days included both a technical and educator’s workshop, followed by conference presentations and discussion sessions the remainder of the week. A high altitude balloon launch took place on Friday morning, launching payloads from the educator’s workshop and from the statewide Near-Space Balloon Competition, organized by the North Dakota Space Grant Consortium. The banquet keynote speaker was Don Day, Chief Meteorologist for Felix Baumgartner’s record breaking high altitude jump.
