Thesis Defense by Greg Simpson on March 27th

Title: Assessment of National Security Space Management and Organization

About the Topic:  Analyzes the results of the Report of the Commission to Assess the United States National Security Space Management and Organization in order to determine which recommendations were beneficial, which recommendations are still in effect and what additional measures should be undertaken to continue, and even advance, our standing as a premier space power.  Analyzes the potential managerial and organizational shortcomings of National Security Space within the United States Government, specifically the Department of Defense.  Reviews the various management and organizational force restructuring which occurred as a result of the commission’s report and other recommendations / directives from the time period.  Identifies the significant effects of these decisions and which mitigating actions should now be undertaken to offset any unintended consequences and shortfalls.  Shows the importance of the National Security Space in order to validate the essentiality, viability and efficacy of the managerial and organizational structure(s).  A literature review of a number of peer-reviewed documents, government / military archives, interviews and related texts have been researched in an effort to fully vet this process.  Provides a sound analysis to ascertain any managerial and organizational shortcomings to National Security Space and to recommend possible restructuring in order to streamline our processes.

BIO:  Greg is currently a Senior Space and Special Technical Operations Officer in the United States Army with over 28 years of service.  He is stationed with III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas and has recently returned from his second tour to Afghanistan.  Greg is originally from Virginia and completed his undergraduate work from Virginia Military Institute with a double major Bachelor of Arts in History and Modern Languages (Spanish).  He has been assigned at every level from platoon through Corps; commanding at the Battery and Battalion levels.  His military background includes assignments with air defense artillery, field artillery, missile defense, and space operations.  Greg’s awards and decorations include two Bronze Star Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, three Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, two Armed Forces Reserve Medals, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, two Overseas Service Ribbons, the NATO Medal, the Army Master Space Badge and the Parachute Badge.
