Space Studies Group Spreads Knowledge at Int’l. Astronautical Congress

Space Studies faculty member Dr. Michael Dodge, NDSGC Space Grant Deputy Director Caitlin Nolby, and Coordinator Marissa Saad were in Adelaide, Australia along with M.S. student Carolyn Newton and recent Ph.D. graduate Kavya K. Manyapu for the 68th International Astronautical Congress (IAC), September 25-29.  Dr. Dodge presented Assessing Refugee Crises through the Lens of the Outer Space Treaty and Space Technologies at the session titled “Refugees and the Role of Space Communications/Status and Practice of Charter for Man-made Disasters”.  Caitlin Nolby and Marissa Saad presented Impact of Hands-on Professional Development Workshop in North Dakota on Secondary Teacher Confidence in Space Sciences at the Secondary Space Education session.  Carolyn Newton presented Constructing a Fully Functional Planetary Base on Earth at the Life Support, Habitats, and EVA Systems session. Dr. Kavya K. Manyapu (Aeropace Sciences Ph.D. August ’17) presented Self-cleaning Spacesuits for Future Planetary Missions Using Carbon Nanotube Technology at the Advanced Systems, Technologies, and Innovations for Human Spaceflight session.
