NDSGC Student Wins University-wide Award

We are proud to announce the winner of the University of North Dakota’s 2018 Lillian Elsinga Outstanding Student Leader Award, is one of NDSGC’s own, Denise Buckner!

Buckner, a graduate student in the Space Studies Department, was nominated and selected to win this prestigious award. She consistently demonstrates great leadership with everything she does, especially for the Grand Forks community, K-12 schools, and girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). As the student lead for multiple projects, such as the National Eclipse Ballooning Project, NASA’s Undergraduate Student Instrument Project (USIP)Near-Space Balloon Competition (NSBC) for middle and high school students, and EVA crew launches and support, Denise is a role model student.  Denise has transformed the balloon program, which involved only a handful of participants in the past, to a fully operational team.

Denise will be honored at the Leadership Awards Reception at UND, later in April.
