Dr. Pablo de Le\u00f3n and Dr. Keith Crisman recently visited the construction site of the new Altru Sports Complex to observe the progress of the Neutral Buoyancy Facility (NBF).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The new sports complex will include a specially designed deep-water section that will support UND Aerospace training and research activities in extravehicular activity (EVA) operations. Using specialized suits and equipment, crews will train underwater to simulate \u201cspace walks\u201d and other extravehicular operations, including assembly, maintenance, and repair tasks.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Scheduled for completion in the summer of 2027, the facility will position the University of North Dakota among the few institutions in the United States with neutral buoyancy training capabilities, supporting future human spaceflight initiatives under Artemis and beyond.<\/div>\n
