{"id":1990,"date":"2015-11-19T12:00:30","date_gmt":"2015-11-19T18:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/jdosas\/?p=1990"},"modified":"2019-02-14T14:09:36","modified_gmt":"2019-02-14T20:09:36","slug":"brown-bag-seminar-series-to-feature-chris-hearsey-on-nov-30th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.und.edu\/jdosas\/2015\/11\/brown-bag-seminar-series-to-feature-chris-hearsey-on-nov-30th\/","title":{"rendered":"Brown Bag Seminar Series to Feature Chris Hearsey on Nov. 30th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The fall semester Brown Bag Seminar Series features graduate students providing presentations on their current research and recent internships.\u00a0 This series continues on <strong>Monday, November 30<sup>th<\/sup> (note change of day)<\/strong>, featuring grad student <strong>Chris Hearsey <\/strong>presenting <strong>\u201c<\/strong><strong>Working in the Commercial Space Industry: Perspectives from a Bigelow Aerospace Corporate Counsel<\/strong><strong>\u201d<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0 This is an addition to our normal schedule, as Chris will be on campus to defend his thesis.<\/p>\n<p>This series of presentations will be held in the Space Studies Library at noon.\u00a0 Lunch will be served.\u00a0 All funded grad students are expected to attend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the topic:<\/strong>\u00a0 Since graduating from law school at the University of Mississippi, Chris serves as Corporate Counsel for Bigelow Aerospace. \u00a0Bigelow Aerospace designs and develops inflatable and expandable habitats for outer space. Chris will speak about the company, his job, and the pending launch of its Bigelow Expandable Activities Module (BEAM) to the International Space Station later this year. Questions from students are welcome.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the presenter<\/strong>:\u00a0 Christopher Hearsey serves as Corporate Counsel for Bigelow Aerospace, LLC in Washington, D.C. Prior to working at Bigelow Aerospace, Mr. Hearsey served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Programs and Special Projects for the Astrosociology Research Institute (ARI) from 2009 to 2013. Mr. Hearsey continues to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of ARI and Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Astrosociology.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hearsey holds a B.A. in Mathematical Economics and Political Science from Temple University, a M.S. in Justice, Law and Society from The American University, and a J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law specializing in Air and Space Law.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hearsey has experience working at the United States Department of State, the United States Senate, and the National Air &amp; Space Museum as a Graduate Fellow. He is active in the space policy and law circles and participated in the development of President Obama\u2019s National Space Policy. In addition, he has consulted for the United States Department of State, The Boeing Company, and on several space-themed television programs. Mr. Hearsey is a member of several professional organizations including the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Society of International Law, International Bar Association, and American Bar Association.
