Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Space Science Educators Workshop<\/strong><\/h3>\n

*(Innovative Differentiated Education Activities in Space Science)<\/p>\n

\n

Registration is now closed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

About:\u00a0<\/strong>To prepare for accessible and inclusive eclipse and space science experiences, all educators will participate in hands-on STEM investigations, explore UND’s Human Spaceflight Laboratory (Inflatable Lunar\/Martian Analog Habitat, Space Suit Lab, Electric Rover, Spacecraft Simulators, and more), and visit the UND Atmospherium, all while donning simulators!\u00a0 Educators’ experiences will lead to rich discussion on how to improve inclusive STEM pedagogy. Participants’ feedback will also influence future iterations of NASA lesson plans. Educators will network with STEM-passionate educators, DEIA-passionate educators, and NASA researchers.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the IDEAS team (South Carolina, North Carolina, and North Dakota Space Grant Consortia), we encourage interested educators to request a seat in the workshop, regardless of experience levels, subject content areas, and teaching experience. We encourage educators from rural and\/or Tribal communities to apply. All expenses will be sponsored by the educators’ local Space Grant Consortium.<\/p>\n

Where: <\/strong>Grand Forks, North Dakota (see Map)<\/a> at the University of North Dakota<\/a><\/p>\n

When:<\/strong> July 25 – 28, 2022<\/p>\n

Mode of Instruction: <\/strong>In-person<\/p>\n

Time Commitment:<\/strong> All educators will participate for 30 hours, over a multi-day timeframe. Anticipated workshop duration: evening on Monday, July 25 through mid-day of Thursday, July 28.<\/p>\n

Educators interested in earning 2 PD credits will be able to apply through the University of North Dakota. UND is accredited by the <\/span>Higher Learning Commission<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Working Agenda: View Agenda<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Capacity: <\/strong>This workshop will host 30 educators from across the country. All seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. A waiting list will be opened if the limit is exceeded.<\/p>\n

Required technology:\u00a0<\/strong>None required; we recommend bringing a smart device (i.e. a smartphone or tablet to participate in online quizzes and STEM applications). Campus-based WiFi will be available for all participants.<\/p>\n

\n

For Space Grant Consortia:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Each consortium must cover the following expenses for their sponsored educators:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Airfare to\/from Grand Forks International Airport (GFK)<\/li>\n
  2. Hilton Garden Inn Hotel rooms (Room block<\/a> with $96\/night rooms closes June 23, 2022. Group code: GRANT. Call Hilton’s front desk for additional nights: 701-775-6000.)<\/li>\n
  3. Registration fee (covers all educators’ supplies, meals, etc.). Link coming soon.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    For accepted educators and invited keynote speakers:<\/strong><\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Please consult the agenda,<\/a> as it includes directions, links, and resources. Explore the UND Campus Map<\/a> (Robin Hall = F4)<\/li>\n
    2. Airfare:\u00a0<\/strong>out-of-state guests should communicate with your sponsoring agency (i.e. local Space Grant) to secure your own airfare. UND is located ~10 minutes from Grand Forks International Airport (GFK<\/strong>). An alternate option: travel to\/from Fargo’s Hector International Airport (FAR), which is a ~60 min drive. Additional ground transportation will be required. (GFK is recommended)<\/em>.<\/li>\n
    3. Ground Transportation: <\/strong>ND-based educators will be reimbursed for all travel expenses following the conclusion of the workshop. Also, Grand Forks has Uber\/Lyft\/Taxi’s for in-town travel.<\/li>\n
    4. Hotel<\/strong>: all participants should secure their own hotel room; you will be reimbursed for all room + tax hotel expenses following the conclusion of the workshop. Any incidentals and hotel lobby meals\/snacks will be at your own expense. All guests should secure their rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel (Click here for the Room block<\/a> with $96\/night.     5. Per Diem<\/strong>: you will receive payment after the workshop for all meals not provided by the workshop organizers.<\/li>\n
