Brad Myers Begins Interim Deanship at University of North Dakota School of Law

Brad Myers assumed the deanship at the University of North Dakota School of Law on August 1, 2018.  He will serve as interim dean until a new permanent dean has been named.

“I have had the opportunity to work with Brad on the Senate Budget Committee and have been impressed with his knowledge and expertise in budget and tenure,” said Thomas DiLorenzo, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “I look forward to working with him.”

Myers is taking over for Kathryn Rand, who has served as dean since 2009 and is stepping down to return to the law school faculty.

“The faculty and staff are extremely pleased to have Brad selected,” said Rand. “His work ethic is extraordinary. He brings to the deanship experience and expertise and a very strong commitment to the success of UND Law.”

Myers said his goals as dean will be to maintain momentum on current projects, develop new programs and prepare for the new permanent dean. “I think the School of Law is well positioned, with the strong support of the University, to build on Dean Rand’s work over the last decade.”

Myers, who holds the title of Randy Lee Professor of Law, has been with UND Law since 2001, and carries a full load of teaching trusts and estates, tax, and business and estate planning. He earned bachelors and master’s degrees in kinesiology from UCLA, his juris doctor from the University of Oregon and the LL.M. in taxation from New York University. He practiced law at private firms before joining the UND faculty. Myers was appointed by Gov. Hoeven and reappointed by Gov. Burgum to serve as one of North Dakota’s commissioners to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.
