Aaron Heitke ’97, Top Contender for Deputy Chief of U.S. Border Patrol

Aaron Heitke ’97, Chief Patrol Agent (CPA) for the San Diego Sector, is a top contender in the search for a new Deputy of the U.S. Border Patrol, after Raul Ortiz was promoted to Chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) by the Biden administration in June.

CPA Heitke earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.  He also earned a juris doctorate at the University of North Dakota School of Law, was inducted into the Minnesota Bar Association in 1997, and practiced law for a short time before entering the Border Patrol. According to those who spoke with the Washington Examiner, Heitke’s academic background make him a standout among other regional Border Patrol leaders, many of whom have not attended college.
