Jason Loos ’05, Appointed Lake Oswego City Attorney

The Lake Oswego City Council has ended the search for a new city attorney.

During the April 6 meeting, the council selected Jason Loos to replace former City Attorney David Powell.

Powell retired at the end of 2020 and Loos is set to begin in his new position June 14. Evan Boone has served as city attorney pro tem since Powell retired and will continue to do so until Loos begins his new position.

“I am honored to be selected to succeed David Powell and work with the Lake Oswego team,” said Loos in a press release sent by the city Tuesday evening. “My family and I are excited to return to Oregon and join the Lake Oswego community.”

Loos studied law at the University of North Dakota School of Law after receiving his bachelor’s degree from North Dakota State University. He’s worked as an assistant city attorney at the city of Fargo in North Dakota, a city attorney for the city of Laramie in Wyoming and deputy city attorney for the city of Portland. Most recently, Loos was the city attorney in Rochester, Minnesota.

“After conducting a thorough national search and an interview process involving multiple stakeholders, the city councilors and I are excited to welcome Jason to Lake Oswego,” said Mayor Joe Buck in the press release. “His experience, background and perspective will serve our community well, and we’re all looking forward to working together.”

According to the press release, the council is expected to formally approve Loos’ employment contract April 20.
