University of North Dakota President Andy Armacost issued the following announcement to the campus community today:

Dear Members of the Campus Community,

I am thrilled to announce that Dr. Tamba-Kuii Bailey is now serving as Special Assistant to the President for Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). His appointment to this new role represents an important step in the life of the University as we take active steps to ensure a sense of belonging and equity among all members of our campus community.

Since January, Dr. Bailey had been serving in the Provost’s office as Assistant Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion, in addition to his primary role as an assistant professor in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). His record of achievement, his passion for UND, and his vision for making our campus a better place for all have made him an indispensable asset to the entire institution.

In his new role, Tamba-Kuii will serve on the President’s Executive Council and will be responsible for the development of key D&I programs, the coordination of campus D&I efforts, and the creation of our D&I goals and initiatives in the UND strategic plan. Much of this effort will be an outgrowth of his vital work co-chairing last year’s Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This is a two-year temporary position, and we will begin a national search for a permanent Chief Diversity Officer later this year.

Dr. Bailey will continue as an educator in CEHD for a portion of his time, but his primary work will be in direct support to our D&I initiatives across the institution. In addition to seeing him out and about on campus, you will be able to find him in his new office in Room 100 of Twamley Hall.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Tamba-Kuii Bailey to this essential leadership position!

With respect,

Andy Armacost
President
