MEDIA REMINDER: North Dakota Arbor Day celebration will be held on UND campus TODAY
As the newest Tree Campus Higher Education campus in North Dakota, UND will host the 2022 state’s Arbor Day celebration at 1 p.m., TODAY, May 11, at Hopper Danley Spiritual Center. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the Hopper Danley Center.
Parking has been reserved at the Burtness Theatre and Gustafson parking lots for the event, which is open to all.
The Arbor Day celebration will recognize and thank those whose contributions played a part in helping UND become a Tree Campus Higher Education campus.
The event will begin with a welcome from campus arborist Jared Johnson, followed by Posting of the Colors by the Grand Forks Air Force Base Color Guard and singing of Star Spangled Banner by Hope Burdolski, UND student.
State Forester Thomas Claeys will present the Arbor Day proclamation and Tree Campus Higher Education designation, followed by remarks from Bill Sheridan, Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor of Biology and Michael Pieper, associate vice president for facilities management.
Following the celebration, a tree planting will take place. The North Dakota Forest Service will also distribute 100 Meyer spruce seedlings, grown at the Towner State Nursery, to those in attendance.
Special thanks to Arbor Day partners, including the Arbor Day Foundation, Campus Tree Advisory Committee, Grand Forks Air Force Base Color Guard, NDSU-North Dakota Forest Service, Towner State Nursery, U. S. Forest Service, and UND.
